Hello Chemistry Club Members,
Here are the minutes from the meeting that took place on Friday September 21.
The meeting kicked off with Allison Campbell sharing with everyone how the events of Family Day went. Although the weather did not quite cooperate, the Chemistry Club was still there with fun activities. Thanks to all of you who helped with the event and hopefully we can continue the tradition next year.
The next item up for business was the idea of having a Haunted House in Stoffer during Halloween. Laura Blasi volunteered to help coordinate this event with Sarah the President of Biology Club. This years t-shirt design was discussed again. There are several different ideas circulating, but no decisions have been made yet. Renae Solko volunteered to chair the committee to work towards finalizing the design and eventually ordering the shirts. Anyone with ideas should feel free to submit them. Also discussed was an upcoming event that Washburn is co-hosting and the Chemistry Club would like to get involved in. Conoco Phillips will be coming on October 4 for a Conservation of Energy tour. Elizabeth Farnham volunteered to chair the committee for finding out how the Chemistry Club could get involved in this event. Another upcoming event in the month of October is the annual Halloween Party that the Biology Club hosts with us. Planning for this event will need to start in the near future, and everyone should be getting excited, as it is always a very entertaining event! Fundraising was another topic that was discussed. Sean suggested that a Bocce Ball Tournament would be a very exciting event as well as a good opportunity to raise some funds for the club. He volunteered to chair the committee to get the ball rolling for this event. Dr. Shaver, who is the secretary of the local ACS chapter, brought up the idea of ACS possibly providing funding for the club to host Chemistry Day again this spring. He suggested that the paperwork for the request should be submitted soon, so everything will be in order by this spring. Chemistry Day was a major success last year, so we should definitely plan to prepare for it again this year. Dr. Schmidt brought up the idea of becoming a student affiliate of the American Chemical Society. All officers are required to be student affiliates and it is a good idea for other members to join as well.
Several members volunteered to be in committee’s for upcoming events. Thanks to all who volunteered, it is greatly appreciated. If you were unable to attend the last meeting and would like to get involved in any of the events, reply back to this e-mail and I will put you in contact with the appropriate committee chair.
