Meeting Minutes

Hello Chemistry Club Members,

Here are the minutes from the meeting that took place on Friday October 5.

The meeting started with a discussion on the ConocoPhillips event that took place on October 4. Members who attended the luncheon were Sean Armstrong, Elizabeth Farnham, Amy Puderbaugh, Kyle Volle, Dr. Schmidt, and Dr. Angel. Additionally, Elizabeth Farnham, Nick Hill, Josh Freeby, Kyle Volle, Lian Chang, and Carole Jontra volunteered at the town hall meeting. Thanks to everyone who attended these events and represented for Washburn and the Chemistry Club. There was some very interesting discussion at the event and it is great that our club could participate.

Next, the upcoming ACS meeting was discussed. The committee is currently working on the paperwork to request funding for the event from WSGA. That paperwork is due by October 15, but the deadline for registering for the event through ACS is October 12. Those interested in attending this conference should be looking for announcements and/or emails when further information is available. Nick Hill then introduced everyone to some new changes he has made concerning our website. The official link to the website is www.wuchemclub.com. Thank you goes to Nick, for purchasing the domain name for us. In addition, Nick set up an officer mailing list. If you want to get in contact with any or all of the Chem Club officers, just send an email to officers@wuchemclub.com. Additionally, Nick reported that if anyone has any contributions they would like to make to our website (i.e. pictures from past club events) you can just let him know. Sean then announced that on October 26 at noon we will be having a speaker from Creighton University. This date and time will also be our next club meeting. Be sure to spread the word out to any of your friends that may be pre-heath majors as they might be interested to see what schools are looking for in their future students. Next, updates were given on the committees currently preparing for events. Sean gave an update on the Bocce Ball tournament; however, a specific date and time has yet to be determined. Watch for announcements and/or email updates for this event. It will most likely be at the end of October or the beginning of November. Renae updated everyone on the status this years t-shirt design. There is still time to submit an idea for a design because no decisions have been made yet. Laura updated everyone on the Halloween Haunted House idea. The committee decided that instead of having a Stoffer Haunted House, it would be fun to get involved with what Residential Living will be doing in the LLC. The idea is to set up a “mad scientist” table for the kids. Laura also gave an update for the Chemistry Day committee. They obtained the budget from last years event, and are going to use that as a basis for what to request this year. Finally, the Halloween party was discussed. It will most likely be a joint party between the Chemistry Club, Biology Club and AMSA club. Sean will be in contact with the other clubs to sort out the details, so be watching for more information soon.

See you all at the next meeting!
