Washburn University Chemistry Club

Here are the minutes for the meeting that took place on Thursday January 24.

Sean gave a brief summary of the Community Energy Forum that took place on January 23. Thanks to all the club members who were present. Next, Renae announced the upcoming speaker we will be hosting on February 21, Dr. Aakeroy from Kansas State University. She also mentioned other upcoming speakers for later in the semester. These include speakers from Nebraska, Oklahoma State, KU, and even one of our very own faculty. The next item discussed was the club display cases. Caitlin and Adam volunteered to work on them. In other news, the Kansas Academy of Science conference will be held in Emporia this year on March 28-29 and the funding will need to be in by March 10. So this is just a heads up for anyone interested in attending. This
is a great conference to attend to support fellow students and their research as well as to get prepared to present your own research someday. Also in the near future is our annual Bowling Event. A committee was created to start working on the plans for the event. Renae volunteered to chair the committee and Nick and Caitlin volunteered to help. The event will most likely take place at the end of April. The plans for this years Chemistry Day are still in the works, but be looking for more information on that soon. Hopefully the local ACS chapter will be able to attend the awards ceremony, as they will be contributing to the event. And on a last note, Dr. Schmidt reminded everyone that the Seminar Room is available on the third floor of Stoffer for anyone needing a place to study.
